When I saw this book advertised on Amazon in the recommended reads, I was drawn to the cover and thought OMG that looks like something I would like and as I opened up the page of the book on my Kindle, I realised right then and there that I was in for what seemed like a modern rendition of Robin Hood but in this case it was set in Arizona not Nottingham , Robin Hood was in fact a female named Willa and she was not an adult but a high school new girl. The story starts when Willa's mum lands into a windfall and they move into a new town , a dreamhouse and it's Hello Private School for Willa. Soon Willa is caught up in the image of the "Glitterati" - the popular crowd and her money starts being spent away on new clothes. However, she discovers new clothes - the right clothes can in fact boost ones status. When she discovers that the new 3 scholarship kids are being teased and rejected for being poor, she decides to become a modern Robin Hood and steal from the rich to give to the poor - being steal from the rich students to give to the scholarship kids. With the help of her new friend Tre , we read as Willa learns the skills of a thief. But will it be too long before she is caught or will Willa Fox stay as Sly and hidden away from the rumour mill.The only thing that annoyed me about this book, was that there is something going on with her mother and we learn that an FBI agent is on the scene - before it got to her side of the story or who the agent really was , it finished on a cliffhanger and at that stage I wasn't sure if there was a sequel or not. Turns out there is but it doesn't get published till next year.

Pretty Crooked Pretty Crooked Trilogy Elisa Ludwig Books Reviews
Willa Fox has moved around a lot in her life, her single artist mom taking them on new adventures every year. When her mom’s paintings finally start selling (and really well at that), they move yet again to Paradise Valley, Arizona, where they hope to stay for good this time. Willa starts at a fancy prep school, where she soon meets the popular girls known as the Glitterati. As time passes she starts to realize that her new “friends” are really just pretty bullies and comes up with a plan to even things out. Take from the rich kids and give to the poor ones. Willa learns how to pickpocket and break into cars and at first, it’s fun. But things get very complicated when the police start investigating the recent string of burglaries and her future gets put in jeopardy.
Sometimes a book will just suck you in, even if you’re not even a huge fan of the story. For me, that was the case with Pretty Crooked. I really enjoyed some aspects (like the mystery and romance) but surprisingly I wasn’t a fan of the “Robin Hood” storyline, mainly because I think starting this I was expecting something more grandeur-like than petty theft. I also think I would’ve liked this book a little better if I had liked Willa more. Yes she was witty, cute and spunky, but she was also kind of annoying and her actions cringe-worthy. However, I did really like some of the other characters, like bad-boy-but-not-really Aiden, sweet and protective Tre, and happy-go-lucky Cherise. Ending my nitpicking, I do have to say that overall I found it to be a light, fun, and quick read that kept me engaged. I finished the book in one evening. I have high hopes for the second in the series, because the best part of the whole book was the intriguing ending. It definitely promises more mystery fun!
Pretty Crooked was full of mystery, fashion, romance, and adventure. If you like YA’s that are light fun or books from authors like Ally Carter, Sara Shepard, and Maureen Johnson, then this would be a great series for you to try. I for one am really curious to see what happens with Willa and the gang next in Pretty Sly, book two in this trilogy.
{Content Warning There is talk of people hooking up, one short kissing scene, uses of words like “byatch” and he**, and overall questionable actions. A boy says he’d “hit that.”}
Elisa Ludwig has created a hilarious modern day Robin Hood in her debut novel, Pretty Crooked. Willa never wanted to move, but when her artist mother sells her art for a lot of money, a move is exactly what they do. Now Will finds herself at an exclusive prep school and instantly welcomed into the Glitterati, the popular group. Not wanting to complain about her new friends, she tries to ignore that these girls could be behind a mean gossip blog, the Buzz who aims to make fun of the scholarship students. In order to put everyone on an even playing field (that is give the scholarship girls some money and new clothes), Willa comes up with the plan to become a modern day Robin Hood, which isn't as easy as she thought as she sets out to learn how to break-in and pick pockets. Will she be able to get away with this plan while still evading the cops who are getting closer to busting her?
On the surface, this would seem like the average mean-girls-get-what-they-deserve type book, but there are so many layers to this book, including strange parental behaviour and another mystery surrounding hottie Aidan (which I won't say anything about as it will spoil some of the mystery). Willa is a sincere character who just wants everyone at Valley Prep to be treated the same, and that may include stealing and giving new clothes and money to the poor scholarship girls who are constantly being bullied because they don't have money. Who wouldn't want that?
Elisa Ludwig does a fantastic job of immersing the reader into the glamorous world of Valley Prep, which helped to get the reader to know all about the characters before Willa's big plan begins.
Pretty Crooked definitely was a great build-up for the next book, but I felt there were too many subplots and mysteries happening in the background that didn't get cleared up by the end of the story, and this is one thing that let the story down. The novel is a fun, light read, and a must for anyone who loves the Robin Hood (stealing from the rich to give to the poor) storyline.
