Five ski bums from different walks of life become unlikely friends when they choose between the new skiing mecca, Vail, and the renowned legend of sport and pleasure, Aspen, for their home. They never imagined that in their quest to ski the grand powder of the Colorado Rockies, they would become embroiled in an adventure about another kind of stash. They test their wits against a Nazi war criminal, an order of eccentric monks and a 10th Mountain Division veteran in trying to solve a mystery that spans two continents and three decades of intrigue.

I kind of agree with the reviewer who said that more of the story should have unfolded through the characters' dialog and action, but I still enjoyed reading it, as someone who enjoys both history and the mountain lifestyle. I think overall it's a niche book written by and for people who are "ski bums" and/or history buffs, particularly Colorado history. That's the aspect of it I enjoyed the most, i.e. reading about the early days of the Vail and Aspen resort towns.

Ski Bumming for Stash edition by Paul Golden Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

I could not finish the book. I would suggest the author take a writing class and read some really well written fiction. The first rule of good writing is show don't tell, and the author never revealed anything through dialogue, description or action. It was written like a report. I hate to be harsh. I think this may have been a labor of love by a first time author.
OK diversion when skiing in Vail, but not well written.
A fun read for those who skied Vail and Aspen in the early 70's when some of the pioneers from the 10th Mountain Division were riding the lifts, skiing the slopes and frequenting the bars. Blending real people, who still walk the streets, with fictional characters made the story seem more real.
A must read for anyone who has lived in Vail or Aspen in the early years. The mix of fiction and non fiction enhances the overall story. It is the kind of book you will want to pass along to your friends. Very entertaining.
Liked book alot. It was fast moving, going from one location to another. really liked the mix of adventure and of historic backdrop. Captured excitement of road tripping and adventure of ski bumming. Really captured geography of various settings.
Colorado skiing and World War II history converge in the Vail and Aspen resorts (in actuality created and developed by 10th Mountain Division soldiers returned from the Italian and German campaigns) where a host of colorful present day characters collide and carouse in a tale of schuss and swindle. The history is well researched and the adventures well recounted. Enjoy!
If you immerse your self in ski culture as i do you will love this book. Great background on Aspen and surrounding resorts.Well worth a read.
