Roller coaster rides have nothing on this twisted romantic suspense. JA Huss, true to her craft starts off what you think will be a story of love and fame lost then found with some bumps along the way, but oh no, this is a jolt into the psychological thriller realm right out of the gate (well at least after the Prologue). Rock is flawed for sure and what you think his truth to be one moment is spun around and thrown backwards as something else entirely. Each character brings their own twist to the mix. This is the kind of story where each one can easily have a book of their own to tell their own back story. This is a read 2+ times for sure. So many elements of surprise, always the hot sexy stuff JA does so well and the curveballs throughout. Great ride! So as I say to my fellow Shrikers, BUCKLE UP!!!!Tags : Rock - Kindle edition by JA Huss. Rock edition by JA Huss Romance eBooks Reviews
This review contains a possible small spoiler but I tried to keep it vague. This is my first book by this author and the writing was great. It is told from RK' pov. He being from a small town in Colorado who made it big in LA as the lead singer of his band. He left Colorado due to a tragedy in his life on the night of his prom. 5 years later finds him back home trying to put the pieces of his life back together after the loss of 3 of his band members. This book is very different and you have to hang in there. Only thing I felt was missing was why he left to begin with and never went back before the 5 years. Seems like there could be a whole chapter explaining all of that, otherwise it would be a 4 star book. Without that his very first meeting the night of the prom with Margie should have been left out. He chose to leave and its never explained
I wasn't sure what to expect when I started reading this book. All I know is that I will blindly follow (or in this case one-click) JA into the quagmire of hell. I am always nervous wondering what emotional mind games she is going to put me through- despite knowing she gives me my HEA. I'm not sure why I wait on baited breath because everything that JA Huss writes always seems to be a hit. She writes with emotion. She makes you feel. She leaves you guessing. She makes you lose track of time. She will have you smiling one minute and wiping away a tear in the next. She will have you look into the cost of therapy (because she's that good at screwing with your mind) and or fanning yourself because she's exceptionally good at writing a sex scene. Two of my top five book boyfriends (Ford and Fletcher) are from her exceptional mind...
I never know what to write in a review. A lot of people will write a summary of the story and while I could go on and on about Missy and Rock/RK I will leave that in their capable hands. Part of the reason I LIVE and LOVE literature is because of the emotions they invoke. The ability of the story--by way of the author--to let your imagination sore to the highest of highs, the lowest of lows and ultimately teeter on the precipice of the abyss. So rather than give you a summary of the book, just trust me when I say that you need to give this book/author a chance. You will not be sorry. The fact that I'm typing this out on my iPad despite the constant effed up auto correct words should show I'm serious about my love for this book and this author. Plus as a bonus you get to read the EOBS which gives you insight into her mind and see how a story comes to life!
Kudos JA Huss! I'm still clutching my one way ticket to Hussville and not afraid to admit that I'm okay with the title of stalker!
When going in to a JA Huss book, I think you should go in blind. Know that she won't disappoint you with her stories and the characters, but she WILL mess with your brain and your logic.
So, I knew a little about this book before starting it. I tried to stay away from any teasers because that's just too much. "A rockstar book unlike anything you've ever read before." It sure was! We don't get true "rock star" status, but we get a background to who RK/Rowan Kyle/Rock was, who he is and who he tries to be. And they all are very different people. That's what made this story all kinds of messed up. Who is he? Who are his bandmates? What happened to them all? Who is Melissa/Melanie? Seriously....who is everyone and what is true and what is not? So many questions.
I liked the twist that it started out with a major prologue, but then brought you back to the past to see who these people were and then back to the present. All told from Rock's POV, with a side of amnesia stemming from an incident. But is it amnesia? Is anything what it seems? Who is hiding what and is anyone there to really protect RK from himself? Those are all questions that may be revealed on the twisty roads of Colorado.
"You're the kind of guy who breaks up families, and drives drunk, and ruins lives. You ruin people, Rock...."
But is that really Rock? Because as things proceed, we learn he never really wanted to be the rockstar he became. He did things to run away from who he was.
Thank you for another twisted-mountain road ride, Julie. I didn't see things coming, but I felt like I was given crumbs throughout the story to get me part of the answers. But I still questioned each and every person until the very end. And THAT's what you do best. Make me question what is real and what is not? Who is believable and trustworthy? That's why we fall for the main characters and the side characters. Because even with the suspense, there is still a romance being played out before our eyes.
"And I feel like this is a turning point for us. The period at the end of a sentence. Or maybe just the first word of a new chapter."
